GO TO SLEEP MY LITTLE BUCKAROO

Close your sleepy eyes, my little Buckaroo.

While the light of the western skies is shinin' down on you.

Don't you know it's time for bed, another day is through.

So go to sleep, my little Buckaroo.

Don't you realize, my little Buckaroo,

That it was from a little acorn that the oak tree grew?

And remember that your dad was once a kid like you.

So go to sleep, my little Buckaroo.

Here are some audio clips where you can hear the melody if you are unfamiliar with it (just click on the icon):

A simple piano accompanyment (WAV ):

One of the nicest renditions I've heard is by Doc Watson, and can be found on the Album : "Daddies Sing GoodNight: A Fathers' Collection of Sleepytime Songs", available through many places including amazon.com for online purchase. It's also downlaodable as a single from some online music sources.

An MP3 clip of it can be heard by clicking here:

Above, the sleeping Tommy Bupp with Dick Foran in THE CHEROKEE STRIP (Warners, 1937).  In the film, Foran crooned a tune called "My Little Buckaroo" to Bupp, and the song became a hit.

The movie can be purchased in VHS or DVD format from the nice people at Comet Video at http://www.cometwesterns.com

DID YOU KNOW?

The word "buckaroo" comes from the spanish "Vaquero", meaning cowboy!

this page is dedicated to my Dad,

who often sang this tune to me as a child.
